Located in the centre of Tsuen Wan District, Yan Chai Hospital (hereinafter known as the Hospital) was founded in 1973 by the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Directors initially equipped with hardly100 beds. Starting as a convalescent-service provider, the Hospital has come a long way to develop into an acute general hospital with the number of hospital beds increasing to 704 (as at July 2006) run by a staff force of about 1,600 strong. Primarily, the Hospital provides in the Tsuen Wan district a wide range of patient care services from acute, convalescence, infirmary to rehabilitation. In 1991, the Hospital was enrolled as a public hospital operating under the auspices of the Hospital Authority.
In addition to catering a 24-hours Accidents & Emergency service, Yan Chai Hospital also provides a string of multi-disciplinary specialty and allied health services to meet public demands. The Hospital also serves as a referral centre for Ear, Nose and Throat specialty services within the Kowloon West Cluster.
