Founded in 1990 by Ng Chiu-shing, Chan Yat-ping, Lai Siu-ming and Wong Yiu-ting the Hong Kong Juvenile and Youth Chinese Classical Orchestra aims at developing Chinese culture, promoting Chinese music activities and nurturing a new generation of Chinese musicians . Member of the Orchestra are mainly young Chinese music lovers, a majority of whom have received rigorous music training since primary school, which has rendered are them a solid foundation , a high standard of virtuosity and rich experience in performance. More than half of its members have won prizes in School Music Festival. Currently, some who wish to pursue a career in music have joined the Hong Kong Academy for Performance Arts for professional studies, while those interested in a career as music educators have become instrument instructors to train up young talents.

In a span of some ten years since its inception, The Orchestra has performed in more than a hundred concerts to high acclaim. It has been deemed a local youth Chinese orchestra with very high potential. Apart from staging concerts on a regular basis at the Hong Kong Cultural Center and various town halls, the Orchestra also give demonstration performances in primary and secondary schools with a view to promoting Chinese music. Performances are also given in district arts festivals . The Orchestra has indeed made remarkable contributions to the promotion of local Chinese music.
