The corpse was found 2 p.m. yesterday, police spokesman Chau Yau-fai said today. Police believe he was a 28-year-old man reported missing Sunday afternoon after falling into the sea off Stanley beach. The man's name and nationality can't be released until he's positively identified, police said.
Hong Kong newspaper Wen Wei Po reported today the man was an American national who fell from a pleasure boat while he was watching the dragon boat races.
Thousands of foreign revelers, including bankers and lawyers, celebrate the annual dragon boat festival, where they watch all- day races from junks, or pleasure boats.
The man's death was not suspicious, Chau said.
